It has been exactly 1 year since I’ve been here. On my first visit, my friend and I didn’t like any of the larger plates of the entrée before but enjoyed the appetizers and drinks so we decided to go back for them. Please excuse the poor Samsung quality photos, I always forget to bring my camera with me!

The first drink I got was the peach blossom. A floral, dry, and like a “Japanese peach tree covered in snow.” (Doesn’t that sound delicious?!) It’s basically sake, cocchi rosa, maraschino, and peach bitters with a slice of orange peel floating on top. The house sour was a mixture of bourbon, lemon, honey, and egg white. The egg white is gives the cocktail a rich, creamy texture to the drink. I usually prefer sweet girly drinks and both these drinks were too bitter and strong for my liking.

The next drink I got after getting some recommendations from our server was the inception, a rum and maraschino lime mix with daquin cordinal. I personally did not like this drink either as it was too dry for my liking. My friend, on the other hand, LOVED this drink and all the other drinks too so maybe it’s just me… You’d have to try it yourself to find out.

We got this last year and had to get this again. This is probably one of my favourite dishes from Woodwork. The steak is mixed in with pickled beets, with an egg yolk on top and waffle fries on the side. The steak tartare has a good texture and not mushy. The fries cannot hold too much tartare per bite but it was still a good combination of the two.

The mont rosa was probably my LEAST favourite drink of them all. It’s a gin mix with cocchi rosa, cointreau, lemon, syrup, serano, and cardamom. It’s known to be light and refreshing with a savoury ending from the cardamon.

This salad had monkfish, shrimp, cod, potato, and tossed in a mustard dressing. The fishy taste was obvious but wasn’t overpowering. It’s a good sharing dish if you don’t want something too heavy.

The best dish of the evening. It came at the same time as the smoked seafood salad. If you love potatoes and carbs like me, you have to try this dish. It’s a crispy fried polenta cake with ricotta, pecans, and a balsamic glaze drizzled on top. The balsamic glaze compliments the ricotta cheese perfectly.

Almost done here… After many fail attempts on getting a drink I actually like, the server recommended the clove club cocktail with vodka instead of gin. I’m so glad she could put up with my picky taste in alcohol because this drink was a seller! It’s sweet and refreshing with lemon juice, raspberry syrup, and an egg white. The egg white made the drink a lot smoother and easier to drink.

We were super full but always room for dessert, right? And over eating is my middle name… T00 bad this was a little too sweet for my liking. The bread has a nice soft texture and the whipped cream goes really well with it but it was drenched with toffee syrup and made the dish overly sweet.
Overall, I’m glad I got to go back and see how things are after a year. For one, they still haven’t fixed their doors yet so whenever someone walks in or out, a huge gust of cold air would hit us. This will be fine during a hot summer day but it was -30 degrees when we went. It’s been over a year and they still haven’t fixed their doors… Besides bashing on their exterior, the food is worth coming for. I’d love to go back to some restaurants that I absolutely loved and blog about them eventually!
